Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Hivee iPhone app, the Hivee Android app, the Hivee web app at app.gohivee.com, and our website at gohivee.com (including the waitlist). It explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Your account
You can sign in with Sign in with Apple, Google, or an email address and password. We store the email address associated with your account, your first name if you give it, and an account identifier. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only ever see Apple's relay address.
Your account is the same across the mobile apps and the web app — that's how your hives appear everywhere you sign in.
Your beekeeping records
Hives, inspections, records, harvests, photos, notes, and your preferences (name, experience level, apiary ZIP code, reminders) are stored on your device and backed up to Google Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Storage and Authentication), hosted in the United States. The mobile apps work fully offline; the web app needs a connection.
This data is readable only by your account, and by Amped Apps for operating and supporting the service — with two exceptions you choose: content you post to the community, and an apiary you deliberately share with a mentor.
The community (The Hive)
When you post, comment, like, follow, or add a story, that content is visible to other signed-in Hivee keepers, along with your display name, your screen name, your profile photo if you set one, and your Founding Keeper number if you have one. Your profile card also shows how many hives you keep and your inspection streak.
- Reports. If you report a post or a keeper, we store your account ID with the report so we can act on it and spot abuse of the report button. The person you reported isn't told who reported them.
- Blocks are stored on your account so they apply everywhere you sign in.
- Stories are hidden from the feed after 24 hours.
- Deleting a post removes it and its photo. Content you shared before deleting may persist in other keepers' devices' caches for a short time.
Mentor Connect
If you invite a mentor and they accept, they can read your hives and your inspections only — not your sales, expenses, customers, tax documents or anything else. Either of you can end the connection at any time, and their access stops immediately.
My Beesiness (Hivee Pro)
If you use the business tools, we store the products, sales, expenses and any buyer names, emails or phone numbers you choose to type in. This is stored in your private account exactly like your hive records.
Hivee does not process payments and never sees card or bank details. Your customer list is built only from what you enter, it isn't shared with anyone, we don't market to it, and you can export it as a CSV at any time.
Location
With your permission, the mobile apps use your device location to show local weather and attach conditions to inspection records (on iPhone this uses Apple WeatherKit). Location is used for those requests and is not stored on our servers. Your apiary ZIP code is optional profile information you provide yourself. Declining location is a first-class choice — the apps work without it.
Ask Hivee (AI assistant)
When you use Ask Hivee, your question, recent conversation, a summary of your apiary, and any photo you attach are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a response. The same happens when you have Hivee read a photo of your handwritten notes. We count your monthly usage to apply plan limits. Please don't include sensitive personal information in your questions.
Notifications
Inspection reminders are generated locally on your device. We also send push notifications for things you've opted into or that relate to your account — your Weekly Rundown if you're on Hivee Pro, activity from keepers you follow, and occasional announcements about Hivee. You can turn notification types off in the app's settings, or turn off notifications entirely in your device settings.
Analytics and crash reporting
We use Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics to understand aggregate usage (which features get used, where people get stuck) and to find and fix crashes. We also keep a small first-party event record in your own account — things like "signed in," "hive added," "inspection logged."
🐝 What we deliberately don't do: we do not collect an advertising identifier, we do not use your data for advertising, we do not share it with ad networks or data brokers, and we do not sell it. Hivee contains no third-party advertising SDKs.
Analytics and crash reporting start when you first open the app. Hivee is currently intended for keepers in the United States; if you're outside the US and would like your analytics data removed, email us and we'll take care of it.
The website & waitlist
When you join the waitlist, we collect your first name and email address, and use them to send your early-access invite, launch news, and occasional product updates.
- Who processes it: waitlist signups are stored and sent through our marketing platform (currently HighLevel, Inc., "GoHighLevel"), operating in the United States, acting as our service provider.
- Opting out: every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can email us to be removed.
- No selling, no ad sharing: we never sell your email or share it for third-party marketing.
- Cookies: our marketing site may set a small number of cookies to keep the site working and to count visits and signups. We don't use cookies to build advertising profiles or track you across other sites. The web app itself uses browser storage only to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences.
Who we share data with
We don't sell your data. We share it only with the service providers who make Hivee work, under agreements that limit them to that purpose: Google Firebase (hosting, database, storage, authentication, analytics, crash reporting), Anthropic (Ask Hivee), Apple and Google Play (sign-in and subscriptions), and HighLevel (waitlist email). We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of keepers or the public.
How long we keep it
We keep your records for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account we remove your cloud data; backups and logs age out shortly afterwards. Reports you file and moderation records may be kept longer so we can act on repeat abuse.
Deleting your data
In either mobile app, go to Profile → Delete Account to permanently remove your cloud data. Deleting the app removes local data. You can also email us to request deletion of anything we hold, including your waitlist signup.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access to your records is enforced by server-side security rules tied to your account, and subscription status is verified server-side. No service can promise perfect security, so please keep your own copies of anything critical.
Children
Hivee isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update this page and let you know in the app.
